I kept going back and forth on building a Fire Pit or just buying one. Well after doing some browsing on Pintrest I found a lot of cool ideas, but for me, the easiest softer way is the best way. I bought the following for under $100 to build a firepit and benches around the firepit…
- 1 Bag of red Lava Rock
- 3 Bags of black Lava Rock
- 6 pieces of 24″ tree brick rounds
- 4 pieces of 18″ tree brick rounds
- 16 Fire Brick 7″ x 7″ (also known as Rumble Stone)
- 14 Cinder Blocks 8″ x 8″ x 16″
- 6 Landscape poles 8′ in length
So after you get all the materials, my suggestion is to figure out where the benches go, so you can center the fire pit easier.
Once you have the area set where the benches will go, now you will lay down the fire brick. This can go on concrete or on dirt, it really doesnt matter, the big thing is to ensure it is a flat surface to build your fire pit on.
Now lay down the 24″ ring so it comes out to the edge of the square and line it up.
Now using the remaining 3 rings (24″). put it on top, but flip it over so they interlock. Make sure the seam is not on another seam. Make it off a little to lock the seams in place.
Using the 18″ rings, do the exact same thing as you did in the one above, and make sure the seams are not in the same position, to allow locking of the seams.
Once you aligned the inner ring so it is even with the outer ring, fill the small gap between the rings with Black Lava Rock. The Red Lava rock will go inside the middle ring, where the firewood will go.
Well, sorry to make this project so easy, but you are done 🙂 Finish setting up your benches if needed, and enjoy your new fire pit. Please make sure to use a metal grate or fire pit mesh cover to stop burning embers from floating away and getting on something flammable.
